Same-Sex Wedding Blues

Your wedding is supposed to be one of the most amazing days of your life. The white dress, the perfect venue, committing to spend the rest of your life with the love of your life in front of friends and family... Every girl dreams of this but that dream may be harder to reach if you identify as part of the LGBT community.

Same-sex marriage has been and still is the LGBT Community's biggest battle on American soil and one that wont be easily won. Evidence of this is seen everyday, most recently in Mississippi where a lesbian couple was denied their venue of  choice because the museum claims the ceremony violates state law. Mother of the bride spoke with Lauren Jow of The Advocate.

“As a mother, I have dreamed of giving my daughter the wedding that she desires, and I want her to be able to get married in her hometown in front of our family and friends,” said Veronica Rodriguez, Sturgis’s mother. “We are not asking Mississippi to recognize Ceara and Emily’s relationship, although it should. We are just asking that they have the opportunity to hold a ceremony in a public place – the same as other couples.”

I personally don't see why legalizing same-sex marriage is such a big deal. I'm no money expert but the amount of money put into weddings and being able to tax the new couple is a plus for the economy. With the amount of support given to it already it would def bring a better sense of pride in our country. From every standpoint its a positive except religiously and that is precisely why we separate church from state.

I wish Ceara and Emily the best of luck on having their perfect wedding. May you one day be recognized as a married couple by this "great" nation.
